South Korea has developed a long-range surface-to-air missile system using domestic technology.
The development was commended in a ceremony on this Friday at the Agency for Defense Development in Daejeon with Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun in attendance.
The system is reportedly able to shoot down targets at altitudes of 50 to 60 kilometers and will play a crucial role in the military’s air defense strategy.
Mass production will begin next year and deployment planned for the mid-to-late 2020s.
Meanwhile President Yoon Suk-yeol has applauded the latest advancement in defense calling it quote “groundbreaking” in efforts to deter North Korea’s missile threats.
